People make what they call a Krathong from banana leaves and light them with candles. Then, they lay their Krathongs in rivers and moats so that the Krathongs float and illuminate the waters and the unique flower decorations on each of them. Activities also include lighting up the sky with lantern-like balloons lifted by a fire source inside. There would be sounds and flashes of fireworks, as if the balloons weren't already enough for us.
Letting up a sky lantern means to let go of problems and worries and letting a Krathong float is to pay respect to water sources, plus lighting both the water and sky makes for a grand sight to behold, something worth keeping in memory.
