JingJai Silk Scarves
Thai StyleSince the rise of the mass-market for silk, with its attendant development of machine production, the painstaking and intricate hand-looming skills are disappearing quickly. Very few young people are learning the traditional silk looming arts, and even fewer have the patience and confidence to express a new personality within this fading discipline. Eastern Serenity works with the modern day innovator Jacarin Puttrapra as he hand-looms his original contemporary fabric designs. Jacarin explores the modern aesthetic possibilities of natural silk by using striking colors, shifting contrasts, and surprising textures. The silk creations are then developed into bags, runners, and scarves. Each item made from JingJai silk is derived from fabric made by him personally, by hand, at his home workshop.
