Buddhas in Historical PosturesThese statues are part of the tradition of the Buddha in a postures that correspond to specific days of the week.
Sunday-“Paang Tawai Netr†The "Seven Days Looking" posture represents Buddha in deep meditation while standing, after having attained enlightenment. After achieving enlightenment by meditating under the Bho tree for seven days, he is said to have meditated further in this position.
Monday- "Pahng Hahm Yath" One of the popular images representing Monday to the Thai Buddhist is known as the "Dispelling Fear" posture and also "Pacifying the Relatives", after an instance mediating between diputing family members. The right hand is raised in a position of calming strength.
Monday "2"- "Pahng Hahm Samut" An alternate symbol in Thai Buddhism for Monday, similar to the Pang Hahm Yath posture. This position is from a parable of Buddha calming the sea, and is known as "Mastery over Passions".
Wednesday- "Pahng Umbaht Buddha" This posture holding an alms bowl reflects the Buddhist tradition of monks performing "pindabat", or, making rounds to collect food and alms from followers to support their ascetic life.
Friday- “Ram Pueng†Both hands folded calmly over the chest, symbolizing the Buddha in the deep contemplation of Vipassana meditation.
